| Citizenship | The development of rights, responsibilities, duties and appropriate conduct associated with members of the community. |
| Compact | An agreement between statutory, voluntary and community sectors to build trust and improve working relationships for the benefit of our communities. |
| Data Observatory | Brings together all data and evidence in one place, usually through an on-line portal |
| Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) | Local Strategic Partnerships (LSPs) are non-statutory, multi-agency partnerships which match local boundaries. LSPs bring together at a local level the different parts of the public, private, community and voluntary sectors. Bringing the four sectors together allows different initiatives and services to support one another so that they can work together more effectively. |
| Local Involvement Network (LINk) | LINks are made up of individuals and community groups who work together to improve local services. The job of a LINk is to find out what people like and dislike about local services and work with the people who can plan and run them to help to make them better. This may involve talking directly to health care professionals about a service that is not being offered or suggesting ways that an existing service could be made better. |
| Local Area Agreement (LAA) | LAAs are about what sort of place you want to live in. They set out
the local priorities that will make Trafford a better place to live,
learn, work and relax. Local Area Agreements are a three year ‘contract’ between a local area (represented by the local authority and other partners through the local strategic partnership) and central Government to deliver particular priorities as set out in its sustainable community strategy. |
| Manchester City Region | The Manchester City Region is one of eight city regions defined in the 2004 document ‘Moving Forward: The Northern Way’. The Manchester City Region encompasses fifteen local government districts which include the cities of Manchester and Salford plus the adjoining metropolitan boroughs of Stockport, Tameside to the South with Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale and Wigan to the north together with High Peak, Congleton, Macclesfield, Vale Royal and Warrington. |
| Multi Area Agreement (MAA) | A multi area agreement is a cross-boundary Local Area Agreement (LAA). They bring together the key players in flexible ways to tackle issues that are best addressed in partnership – at a regional or sub regional level. MAAs compliment and do not duplicate the work of existing LAAs, the new performance framework or existing regional strategies. |
| Neighbourhood Forum | Neighbourhood forums are your opportunity to bring issues about your community to the organisations who are working in Trafford. The forums are held regularly in your area, throughout the year and allow you direct access to council officers, the police, health services, housing associations and your local councillors. |
| National Vocation Qualification (NVQ) | National Vocation Qualifications (NVQs) are work related, competence based qualifications. They reflect the skills and knowledge needed to do a job effectively, and show that a candidate is competent in the area of work NVQ represents. |
| Partnership Agreement | A written agreement between partners that details how partners will operate and what they will deliver. |
| Performance Management Framework | A term which has come into common use over the past decade to describe a process for delivering improvement through the ongoing monitoring and review of performance across all aspects of activity. |
| Quality of Life Indicators | The quality of life indicator set outline 45 key measures to help ‘paint a picture’ of the quality of life of a local area. The indicator sets cover a range of important sustainable development issues which influence our long-term well-being. |
| Sustainable Community Strategy | Creates a long-term, sustainable vision of an area and sets the agenda for priorities through the Local Area Agreement (LAA). |
| Sustainable Development | Sustainable development is development which meets the needs of the present population without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. We need to make a decisive move toward more sustainable development. Not just because it’s the right thing to do, but also because it is in our own long-term interests. Whether at school, in the home or at work, we all have a part to play. Our small everyday actions add up to make a big difference. |
| Trafford Partnership | The Trafford Partnership is the Borough’s Local Strategic Partnership, a single body which brings together more than 100 organisations, including key local and regional partners, across the public, private, voluntary and community sectors. Its primary purpose is to enhance the quality of life and prosperity for all Trafford’s residential and business communities. |
| Trafford 2021: a blueprint | Trafford 2021: a blueprint is a document which outlines Trafford’s Community Strategy which outline’s the borough’s long term vision, action plan and priorities for the area. |
| Thematic Partnership | The Trafford Partnership has 7 Thematic Partnerships which are each required to deliver one of the 7 Key Objectives. For example, the Safer Trafford Partnership is a thematic partnership required to deliver the Safety & Reassurance Key Objective. Each Thematic Partnership has a Quality of Life chapter that supports the Community Strategy. |

Vision 2021 is the long-term objectives of Trafford Local Strategic Partnership and the aims of the Trafford Borough by 2021. |
